Menstrual Cycle Policy:

It is important to start our policy by stating that menstruation is a biological function and not a “female-only” thing. In fact, some cisgender women (assigned female at birth) do not experience menstrual cycles at all, for a variety of reasons. Inclusivity is at the core of Addesu and it is pivotal to note that not all women menstruate and not all people who menstruate are women.

A survey conducted by Bloody Good Period has revealed that 80% of people who menstruate have experienced stress or anxiety at work because of their period. The same survey revealed that 33% feel it is more professional not to mention menstrual health to their employer.

We have implemented our menstrual policy to destigmatize the conversations around the topic. We are aware of the stress, anxiety and physical pain that people who menstruate face at work, and we at Addesu are aiming to do everything we can to reduce their difficulties.

The provisions we are currently implementing will include:

  1. Flexible working: Here at Addesu, we are fully committed to being flexible. Employees dealing with period pain at work and/or any other menstrual symptoms are encouraged to work from home.

  2. Encouraging positive conversations: We want our employees to feel comfortable discussing their periods and the symptoms they face if they want to.

  3. Period leave: If the symptoms faced by any of our employees are too much, they are encouraged to take sick leave. If the employee facing these symptoms would rather take annual leave instead of sick leave, then the official notice period can be waived in this instance.

It is our hope and intention that by implementing this policy, we will create a happier, healthier, more inclusive and destigmatized work environment where people who menstruate feel free to discuss any difficulties they may face.
